Choose a zone tactic
Compare Seize Ground and Balanced Hold, review separate attack and defence predictions, and adjust frontage or assignments when a zone asks too much of its force.
Choose a zone tactic
Use Balanced Hold when flank security and relative strength should limit an advance. Use Seize Ground with a deliberate holding and supply plan because its aggressive advance can overextend.

| Tactic | Documented behaviour | Planning decision |
|---|---|---|
| Seize Ground | Pushes into enemy territory aggressively, including when outnumbered or overextended. | Commit only when you have planned support, a secure corridor and forces to retain the gains. |
| Balanced Hold | Advances with secure flanks and without being outnumbered. | Use when the force should consider local security before extending its position. |
More detail
3 sections§Make the area fit the force#
A regimental plan divides the drawn operational area between regiments and keeps divisional headquarters and support in a reserve area. Look at who owns each zone before judging the plan. Reorganization in the army constructor affects the regiments available to divide that work.
When one regiment covers too much ground, consider a smaller zone or additional assigned battalions. Check neighbouring areas as well: strengthening one zone can leave the force you took those battalions from with a new gap.
§Read both forecasts#
The diary describes separate attack and defence forecasts in the zone information panel. A favourable attack estimate answers a different question from whether your allocation could defend the same area. Review terrain, elevation, friendly forces and visible enemy strength before committing.
These are estimates based on available information. A prediction can change as forces, intelligence or supply change. After reinforcement or a smaller area, inspect the revised forecast and the actual route the operation will depend on.
§Check the executing plan#
The official diary identifies the executing plan with a rotating gear. Multiple theoretical plans may exist at once. First confirm which plan is executing, then review the assigned tactic, local strength and headquarters status.
Zones and assignments are described as adjustable during execution. If the force begins to overextend, reduce its operational area or revise its assignments and review flank security. Exact mouse gestures are omitted until checked in the released interface.
