Plan an attack
Choose between a rapid penetration and a prepared assault, then build a follow-up that can hold captured ground and keep the attacking formation supplied.
Plan an attack
Read the deadline first. Use a deliberate Complex Attack for prepared resistance; reserve rapid penetration for a suitable lightly held route, with a separate plan to secure the ground behind it.
Plan an attack
Mechanics-based sequence; current briefing and UI take precedence.
Match the attack to the resistance
Read the deadline and judge whether the route is lightly held or heavily prepared.
- Success check
- The selected attack approach fits the time and resistance.
- If it remains unclear
- Use preparation rather than extending a failing fast penetration.

§Match the attack to the resistance#
The official attack diary describes Breakthrough Attack followed by Assemble as a fast route through a lightly held front. Breakthrough troops continue along the route and can bypass enemies. They do not stop to secure every piece of ground. The diary warns that this approach is unsuitable for heavy fortifications and dense urban resistance.
For a deliberate operation, the documented Complex Attack sequence combines assembly, simultaneous reconnaissance and bombardment, breakthrough with reserves, and Seize Ground. Review the generated sequence and its assigned units rather than assuming the default plan fits every frontage.
Prepare the assembly area
Prepare the assembly force, supply route and specialist roles.
- Success check
- The attacking formation has the support its route requires.
- If it remains unclear
- Replenish or reorganize before committing the assault.

§Prepare the assembly area#
Bring the attacking force near the front while preparing supply. Check that it has artillery, reconnaissance and engineers for the resistance ahead. Review casualties and supplies before using a depleted division for a demanding assault.
Place supply support for the assembly area and allow for the time required to establish a depot after a mission has started. Keep a protected headquarters position and identify the route the holding force will use after penetration.
Coordinate reconnaissance and bombardment
Coordinate scouting, bombardment and engineer preparation; review shared date or signal conditions when separate attacks need to start together.
- Success check
- Support is assigned to the resistance the attack will meet.
- If it remains unclear
- Delay commitment while restoring a missing role or ammunition.

§Coordinate reconnaissance and bombardment#
The documented prepared attack runs scouting and artillery preparation together. Reconnaissance exposes targets; bombardment weakens the position and fortifications. Preparation consumes ammunition, so extending it needs a supply decision. Exact useful durations depend on the current mission and available stocks.
Review whether your support units are actually assigned to preparation. If a mined or fortified route is involved, include engineer support and allow clearance time. More tank companies alone do not replace the missing preparation roles.
The attack diary describes waiting for a date or signal to synchronize separate attacks. Use a shared start condition when routes need to begin together, and review each route's preparation and supply before that condition is reached.
Penetrate with a reserve available
Review penetration routes, reserve coverage and the corridor behind the advance.
- Success check
- A reserve can assist while the holding force secures the route.
- If it remains unclear
- Shorten the operation or bring the holding force forward.

§Penetrate with a reserve available#
The generated attack can send regiments along separate routes while a reserve remains available to assist threatened friendly troops. Check that each assigned route has support and that the advance does not leave the supply corridor exposed.
An editorial check during execution is to follow the rear of the penetration as closely as its leading edge. If the enemy can close the route, bring the holding force forward or shorten the operation before the attacking units exhaust their supplies.
Finish by holding the gains
Review the Seize Ground phase and supply support before a new attack.
- Success check
- Captured ground and the route supporting it are held.
- If it remains unclear
- Secure bypassed ground and replenish before extending again.

§Finish by holding the gains#
Seize Ground is the documented concluding phase of the prepared attack. It spreads forces to occupy remaining ground, deal with bypassed resistance and form a defensive perimeter. Inspect that phase before issuing the next attack.
Confirm the objective, corridor and supply route together. If the spearhead reached its destination but supporting infantry has fallen behind, reaching farther increases risk. Let the holding force secure the route and extend supply support first.
